Experience

Head of Experience Design 2022–Present
MD LIVE (Evernorth Health Services, Cigna)

Inherited a downstream design organization with limited influence and rebuilt it into a strategic Product Experience team that executive leadership now relies on to identify business opportunities, validate decisions with customer evidence, and align Product, Design, and Engineering around measurable outcomes.

Built and led a team of versatile Product Experience designers who each operate across research, content, accessibility, and design, while increasingly fluent in AI-assisted workflows as a core part of how they work. Promoted team members into senior and management roles by creating accountable role performance expectations, while maintaining exceptional retention. Unified experience strategy across six digital health products serving patients, clinicians, employers, and administrators, establishing enterprise governance, shared interaction and accessibility standards, content guidelines, and a scalable design system. Replaced opinion-driven product debates with evidence-based opportunity assessments grounded in customer research and rapid experimentation — building the executive confidence that now drives product investment decisions. Partnered to build our analytics platform strategy, establishing the measurement framework connecting Product Experience to the business — usability, design quality, accessibility, and innovation metrics that now inform roadmap prioritization and business planning directly.

Head of Product 2021–2022
Health Growth Solutions — Leidos

Recruited as Head of Product to build a newly formed Innovation & R&D organization, managing an annual $18M healthcare portfolio. Charged with transforming custom, client-funded solutions into scalable, vendor-agnostic commercial healthcare products that integrated directly into clients' existing EHRs, improved patient outcomes, and sold across Leidos's client base rather than rebuilt for each engagement. Advised executive leadership on product strategy, technology investments, build-versus-buy decisions, and organizational operating models.

Delivered innovative products across care management, referral management, care coordination, analytics, omnichannel engagement, patient scheduling, and remote patient monitoring — modernizing the organization's Product Management and User-Centered Design practices, including portfolio planning, roadmap development, and customer-centered discovery, to build a repeatable pipeline for commercial viability.

After 14 years building Cerner's Experience Design practice, R&D institute, and Consumer Engagements, I stepped back into hands-on design and product work by choice — sharpening my craft before returning to build and lead a new organization from the ground up at Leidos.

Director, Consumer Engagement - Strategic Partnerships 2017–2020
Oracle Cerner

Served as the direct engagement partner to six strategic health systems' C-suite, collaborating with their product teams to shape and build custom digital front doors — patient and member portals — that reflected each system's brand and consumer experience while staying integrated to the core EHR.

To evolve platform capabilities beyond what existed, I led product and design strategy — prioritizing new workflow and integration capabilities through a continuous release model — while advising clients and third-party vendor teams on technical, design, and usability standards to ensure a cohesive platform experience.

Owned the vision and complexity of integrating multiple third-party vendors — both client-preferred partners and Cerner's existing vendor ecosystem — into a single, seamless patient experience, ensuring each embedded workflow felt like a native part of the health system's platform rather than a bolted-on tool. Led creation of the product's pricing model and capability "menu," enabling clients to configure their own digital experience and platform options.

Lead User Interface Designer 2005–2006
Missouri Department of Labor (Ciber)

As a contract engagement, led the product design and discovery for the redesign of the Missouri Department of Labor's employment website — enabling residents to apply for unemployment benefits online — from user flows and information architecture through wireframe-to-hi-fidelity prototyping, partnering with the product owner on requirements and scope. Owned UI/UX specifications and design systems, ensuring accessibility (508/WCAG) compliance and building reusable component templates for design consistency across the dev team.
